Tonight I have had an epic film night as I have seen two films at the NFT. First I saw Three Colours: Red, which is the first of the Three Colours films I've seen. I don't think I entirely got it. I might need to read a bit about it to discover if it's really as brilliant as some people think it is. It looked really amazing, and some of the shots were great. Was it about guilt? It may have been. The problem was that the cinema was hot as hell, and I'd just rushed to get there from work, so I was really struggling not to nod off. The only thing that stopped me falling asleep completely was the elderly man behind me who kept going ahhh, every time a dog was on screen. The dog didn't even have to be doing anything sweet, he would just say it anyway. I got that the man liked dogs from the first time he did it. Doing it every time just showed that this man liked dogs far too much.
I don't get Kieslowski either, having tried the Dekalog series. Had to give up... There are some visual elements that I like, but generally it's some slow, boring, heavy-going stuff!
